Malaysia Police Seize 41 Crypto Mining Rigs in Teluk Intan Raids
Malaysian authorities confiscated 41 cryptocurrency mining machines across three coordinated raids in Teluk Intan, Hilir Perak. The operations targeted illegal mining setups suspected of electricity theft and property damage—both criminal offenses under local law.
Police chief Bakri Zainal Abidin confirmed 24 machines were seized on January 9, with 17 more recovered in follow-up raids. No arrests have been made, but investigations focus on tracing ownership and prosecuting unauthorized grid connections.
While cryptocurrency mining itself remains legal in Malaysia, the incident underscores growing regulatory scrutiny of operations bypassing power meters or tapping directly into infrastructure. Such practices risk destabilizing energy networks and have prompted warnings from officials about safety hazards.
